A week of yoga

So, yeah, yoga. All day, every day. Definitely kidding on the all day part; didn’t quite make it to every day. I’ve been feeling totally unmotivated to do any type of strength training recently – recently meaning over a month – so I finally decided to branch out from my usual restorative yoga and do all the yogas for a while. I also signed up for the intro month special at a local yoga studio, because unlimited classes for $30. We shall see how many of those classes I actually get to. I like going to studio classes, but I also like doing yoga at home where I don’t need to dress presentably. So this week, day-by-day:

Monday: 20-minute morning vinyasa video.

Tuesday: I planned to go to a restorative yoga class, but for some reason I was exhausted. So exhausted that leaving my house for restorative yoga sounded like too much trouble. So this was the day I didn’t do yoga. Though I clearly left my house at some point because I did go for a run.

Wednesday: 1-hour hip opening vinyasa video. This is one of my favorite yoga videos, so here’s the link. Though to be honest I always fast forward through the “peak pose” (flying pigeon), because I’m nowhere near that flexible.

Thursday: 10-minute morning vinyasa video. This one was not my favorite; too fast and bouncy for morning, or really any time in my opinion. Also 3x800m interval run at (hopeful) 5K pace.

Friday: Gentle yoga class. Yay, I finally actually went to a studio class.

Saturday: 45-minute shoulder strength/mobility vinyasa video. Conclusion: my shoulders might have some issues.

Sunday: So I had good intentions of trying a new trail to run, but then I didn’t get out the door until after 10:30 so going to the nearby trail with lots of shade sounded like a better idea. And then my GPS apparently ran all over the mountains without me, but since I know the trail I can say my feet ran 4.5ish miles. Also 30-minute bedtime yoga class.

Other happenings of the week: I read a bunch of papers, kept the aspen tree shoots from taking over the yard, unsuccessfully car shopped, and made kombucha from my accidental scoby. Because when you leave a jar of unfiltered kombucha in the fridge for 6+ months…you accidentally grow a new scoby.

What’s your favorite style of yoga? Yoga studio or videos at home?

  1. I am impressed with all of the yoga in one week! I am lucky if I can do it once a week. 🙂

That’s usually how I am too! Trying something different 🙂

  2. I like anything where I don’t have to leave the comforts of my own home or pajamas. 🙂

Also I haven’t been motivated to work out in months…actually since Ave was born. I’ll do an occasional run but usually I’m not feeling it.

    Hooray for accidental scoby.

      Same. Pajama yoga is great.

  3. I love going to the studio for yoga, though I have done some classes at home that were pretty good. I only do yoga once a week at most, I wish I had more time to practice! Nice job!

I usually only do yoga once a week or so! Decided to try switching things up for a while 🙂

  4. I have a home gym so always do yoga at home, which I like because I can do it for 10 minutes if that’s all I have. I also liked going to a studio, by I did Ashtanga, which was always a 1.5-hour commitment.

Yes, I like the time flexibility of doing yoga at home! I’ve never tried ashtanga because of the time commitment….

  5. Yes, all of the yogas! I love yoga and wish I could get to a studio more frequently (like every day), but my schedule just doesn’t allow for that, so I go once or twice a week. I am not an at-home workout person at all and definitely prefer a studio. My favorite yoga is flow closely followed by yin.
