Adventure-mobile and angry cats: week in review

I got a “new” car this week! It’s a 2005 Outback, far better suited for mountain adventures than my ’98 Corolla was. One thing the Outback has that the Corolla doesn’t is anti-lock brakes…yep, I survived 2 Montana winters without them. It remains to be seen whether I can remember NOT to pump the brakes.

We tormented both cats this week….all for their own good, I promise. Thor got a haircut because he is miserable in the heat and was spending pretty much all day curled up around an air vent. He wasn’t a fan of the clippers, probably because they can purr louder than him. Loki had to get dental work…and now he has medicine to take for the next week. It takes both of us to get it in him, and he still manages to unleash the full force of his feline fury. We have a few scratches.

I had a horrible run, but also a good run. I almost never have GI issues, but they came out in force on an “easy” run this week. I had to run/walk the last mile. I didn’t eat anything that morning or anything unusual the night before, so probably just random. The good run was my speed run – I managed my goal pace 2/3 intervals despite a pretty stiff wind.

Went to 3 yoga classes, 2 of them new to me. Finally making good use of my unlimited month. I tried a hatha class and a vinyasa class, and went back to a gentle yoga class I’ve done before. Although I had to leave the first vinyasa class I tried to attend (before class actually started, I’m not rude) because it was a hot class that wasn’t listed as such. If I start sweating as soon as I walk in, I’m not going to survive an hour of yoga in that room. But if anyone wants to start a cold yoga trend, I’m there.

Bottled some kombucha. Because I’m indecisive, I’m trying 3 flavors: cream soda (molasses + vanilla), cardamom mint, and Mexican chocolate (cacao nibs + cinnamon + dried chile).

We went for a short hike this weekend, no runs, because I was feeling pretty crappy. I caught this picture of Kara with her ears mid-flap. If that doesn’t make you smile on a Monday I’m not sure anything can.

What’s your favorite kombucha flavor?

Hot yoga or cold yoga?

  1. I can relate to your feline woes. I’m taking my cat to the vet this week and I am not looking forward to it.

Great job on the exercise. I did pretty good last week on the fitness front too, although I can already feel myself slipping back into my old ways. Confession: I don’t hate it. Ha. 🙂

Happy Monday and thanks for linking up.

Poor Loki has taken up residence in the back corner of the closet to avoid taking any more of his medicine. Hopefully your cat gets a clean bill of health with no vet-mandated kitty torture.

  2. I actually haven’t tried hot yoga yet. That hike looks so amazing! But boo to GI issues, especially on an easy run!

Pilling cats is the worst. Thankfully I’ve almost never had to do it (in fact never, with Giz). It’s definitely a 2 person operation — although my previous cats were declawed (I didn’t know any better) and I was actually able to do Puss on my own. Although they can still nail you with those back claws!

It is actually a liquid medicine that he has to take – which should be easier since you can mix it into their wet food, but of course Loki is the picky eater and can smell the meds mixed in. So we’re stuck with trapping him and forcing the syringe into his mouth.

  3. Aww, poor kitties!

Can you believe that I’ve never had kombucha?

I hadn’t tried it until fairly recently! And then I went and got a scoby to make my own, so watch out, you might get hooked 😉

  4. My dog also got a dental exam last week, and he had to get two teeth extracted. He was feeling pretty bad for the first few days, and I felt so bad! But he’s back to his happy self now. Yay for the new car for off-roading adventures! I got a new car in January and looked at both the Outback and Forrester, but my dog is too tall and didn’t fit!

I think it can be harder for animals the bigger they are – my kitty bounced back from his surgery faster than the dog usually does from her vaccinations! And wow, he’s a big dog! But the Subaru ceilings are little lower than most others I think.

  5. I’ve got to learn how to bottled kombucha!

      It’s actually pretty simple!

  6. Ooooh, your homemade kombucha sounds AMAZING! I am intrigued by the cream soda flavour…. yum!

Well….I probably put too much molasses in the “cream soda”, because it just tastes like molasses. :/ I’ll have to try again with less!
