favorite links 7/10/16 - outdoors, travel, recipes, soul food, brain food

I know it’s cliche to use the weather as a conversation starter, but recently we’ve been getting a lot of thunderstorms. I love summer thunderstorms, though they do disrupt trail running plans. Have I mentioned before that I’m originally from Texas, and then moved to Nevada for five years? I grew up with thunderstorms and downpours, but the entire 5 years I was in Nevada there was ONE rainstorm. It rained (slightly) more often than that, but usually just a drizzle. So I’m enjoying living somewhere with thunderstorms again.

Anyway! Here’s an abrupt segue to the links:

Outdoors

Lots of trail views to admire: the Pacific northwest, the Grand Canyon, and Niagara Falls.

Trail food: backcountry fried rice.

Travel

Tips for traveling on a budget. Bonus: in my opinion, a lot of these also make travel less stressful.

The art of traveling in developing countries.

What I packed for one month in Europe.

5 days in Iceland plus managing travel expectations.

Soul food

Love looks like choices.

On seasons of self investment, aka soul recharging.

Brain food

Failure in science is frequent and inevitable – because it’s meant to work that way.

We’re all biased, but that doesn’t keep us from making valid decisions.

Stomach food

Ramen noodle salad.

Curried kohlrabi fries. What’s kohlrabi? It’s a weird-looking vegetable we get in our CSA share that I always need more ideas for using.

Peanut butter vanilla protein bars.

Cardamom cinnamon turmeric iced tea – most of my favorite flavors in one drink.

Do you love summer thunderstorms?

What’s your favorite “wild” weather?

You’re welcome! Love the Grand Canyon, but haven’t been since I was a kid.
