One mile: LCL recovery week 5

Not a lot going on last week. I spent most of the week trying to get over a cold, so no pool running or other gym activity. I felt uniformly cruddy while keeping up with my usual obligations for the first half of the week, but I went home early both Thursday and Friday afternoons to rest and relax. Then I finally started to feel better….funny how that works.

BUT on the bright side, I am ready to (slowly) start running again! I went out for a mile Sunday to see how it felt. I made a half mile loop by myself to make sure the sidewalks were clear, then stopped at home to take Kara out for the second half mile loop. She also has not been running since her leg injury and surgery, so we will be rebuilding our endurance together.

The injury area was a bit sore afterwards, but not painful. It felt the same way after my PT session Friday – we did a lot of balance work on the Bosu and wobble board. My left leg balance was decent, although noticeably wobbly compared to the right. Pre-injury it was the other way around (as I’m left-handed/footed). So, making progress but still a lot of strength to regain.

This week I have a running form evaluation scheduled. Hopefully that will be my last PT session for a while. And I suppose I should get back to pool running too.

  1. It sounds like you are making progress with the injury. That’s great! At least you and Kara can rebuild your miles together too. It would be so interesting have to have my running for evaluated. But, I’m sure there’s so much wrong with it I might not want to know. I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on your evaluation. Thanks for linking!

Glad to hear that you got to run again! I’ll be curious to hear how your recovery progresses. Your pup’s too!

  3. So, you’re making progress!!! You mentioned balance work…ugh!!!! That’s something I need to remember to do on a regular basis…it’s great for the core as well as strengthening all the necessary “parts.” Keep up the great work!

  4. Just catching up on all my blog reading now. So sorry to read that you’ve been injured. But glad there is progress, step by step. Must be so frustrating especially when you are typically such an active person.

  5. you seem to be making great progress with your recovery. I have really come to enjoy pool running sad that it is now too cold for it

  6. Hooray for a pain free run!

I actually like going to PT. Wish I could afford to do it regularly!

Here’s to many more miles for both you & Kara.

  7. Well done, good progress, and very sweet that you and Kara can do your rehab together!

  8. Kudos on the first run post injury. That’s great news and even moreso it was just sore and not a backslide. You give me hope I can run again soon. Ave asks me every day, can you jump yet on your bad foot? Ha. Soon, I hope.

  9. […] my test run last Sunday, I didn’t run again until Friday. Oh, except like a quarter mile at my form […]
