After the previous week’s bout with insomnia, I finally got back to sleeping normally about halfway through last week. Catching up on sleep/energy meant that I did little more than I had to last week, and by 6 pm I was pretty much like this for rest of the night:
The weather seemed to finally remember that it’s supposed to be winter last week, with snow at both the beginning and end of the week. But a gross, slushy thaw in the middle of the week, because we can’t just enjoy the season we’re in I guess.
On the workout front, last week I ran on all 3 of my workout days. Getting crazy over here. However, I’ll probably stick with running on 2 gym and 2 non-gym days in the future, as this schedule involved running 3 days in a row and one of my knees was a little cranky about that. Oh, and I did 15 minutes of yoga this week…which was 15 minutes more than the last few weeks.
On Monday I did some treadmill intervals. Wednesday I split up my run and gym workout so Kara could run with me.
Friday I ran hills on the treadmill. And Thursday was my long-ish run of the week, as well as a demonstration of why I prefer in-town trail running over roads in winter. Let these pictures explain:
Ice. (And shorts, because 45 degrees…)
Slush.
Trail. Notice the lack of ice and slush.
And Sunday we went hiking. Kara says, “finally”.
What’s your preferred winter running surface?

3 days in a row of running would bother my knees too. So glad that you are sleeping better this week. Have a great one

Yes, didn’t think that one through!
I was wondering what was going on when I saw shorts and snow on your IG stories. The slush junk explains it. We’ve got some of that right now. It’s gross and dangerous. I shall be staying indoors. You’re much braver than me. Also, hooray for restful evenings and 15 minutes of yoga. I’d take it.
Happy Monday and thanks for linking up.

The last couple weeks have been mostly single digits, so definitely no slush!
I like running on packed snow — or fresh snow. It’s the ice and slush that always gets me in trouble. I wish I got outside on the warm days last week. The wind yesterday and earlier today was brutal! brrrr

Yep, boo to ice!
Shorts and ice!?! I’m not sure if any temperature would make that seem normal to me…. but hey, you go (just don’t slip?). And hey 15 minutes more than the last few weeks is 15 minutes more than the last few weeks!! Huzzah!! Well done all around. Especially on getting out of that insomnia bug.

Thank goodness the insomnia stayed away. Feeling mostly normal again
We’re going to have a bit of a thaw this week, which means only one thing: ice. I’d much rather run on snow than ice. Should be interesting…
Snow is a million times better than ice.
The weather has been crazy this winter. We’ve had a significant amount of snow on the ground 3 times . . . and then it warmed up enough to melt it all — 3 times (actually, the third time is in progress & it’s not quite all gone yet).
My preferred winter surface is no snow or ice. None, Nada. Zip. Zilch! Winter party pooper here! Someday I’ll escape from the NE again.
It has been crazy!
I am glad you are sleeping better! At least you enjoyed wearing shorts this week. I can’t weigh in much about winter running surfaces. We received two rare snowfalls this year and I didn’t run in either one. Thanks for linking!
Missed opportunity if you ask me!
Shorts!??!???? Girl you make me feel like such a wimp 😂 when it’s 45 here I’m wearing like 10 layers

But not running… That’s what keeps you warm 😉
I’m glad you got to catch up on some sleep! <3
I'm a total wimp when it comes to the cold, so I applaud you for the shorts, haha. It was actually warm enough for em' over here for about two days, but it decided to switch back to cold/rain for the weekend. :'(!
