So everything was going great until Wednesday, when I woke up with my neck/upper back feeling stiff and sore. Not really painful, just feeling like I slept on it wrong. Then I rolled over in bed that night and something seized up and made everything painful. I took ibuprofen and some topical pain stuff and managed to get to sleep, but when I woke up it was still painful and I could barely move my head.
I went to the doctor Friday – because I gave it a day to see if it would start to get better, no luck – and she diagnosed me with a muscle spasm. She prescribed a muscle relaxer and some exercises; apart from that I was already doing everything she recommended to treat it. I have spent a lot of the last few days laying on a heating pad because that was the least painful position. Thankfully, as of now my head movement is almost back to normal and it’s mostly sore/tight rather than painful.
Before that whole saga, I ran a total of 6.2 miles over two neighborhood runs. Not what I planned for the week, obviously, but alas, running requires a functional neck.
I did get out for a walk with Kara today, and nothing hurt despite the occasional enthusiastic leash tug. So hopefully I’ll be running again in the next day or two.
So…ever injured yourself while sleeping? Ever dealt with a muscle spasm?
ooh those muscle spasms are no joke! Hope you are feeling better this week
I hate when I wake up with a stiff neck. When you talk to people you have to turn your whole body. It’s so uncomfortable. Hopefully, you’re feeling much better now!
Muscle spasms are SO painful – so sorry you had to deal with that.
Yes, I had definitely injured myself while sleeping – usually a random bruise, it’s so strange!
I sometimes wake up with a wonky neck, and it’s really annoying and burdensome. I usually sleep on my side (fetal position), and it’s usually from the pillow(s) not being aligned just right…at least that’s my theory. Glad you’re feeling better!
I once reared up in my sleep turning over and knocked my face on the wooden bed post, giving myself a BLACK EYE!
Glad you’re feeling better now.
I’ve never had a really bad muscle spasm. But yup, you just move the wrong way & it can be wham! Sorry to hear that happened to you; here’s to a much better week this week.
Everything looks so pretty there!
oh no 🙁 that’s AWFUL!! I’m so sorry that kind of wrecked the rest of your week! what about massage, could that help you?
Ouch! That sounds rough…I hope the muscle relaxers are helping!
